FARM-SUBSIDY FIGHT

An unlikely coalition of agriculturists, aid groups, grant makers, and the World Trade Organization is gaining ground in its campaign to cut subsidies to American agriculture, reports The Wall Street Journal. The groups, which say the subsidies depress prices and hurt farmers in Africa, are benefiting from the momentum created by rock star Bono’s efforts to raise awareness of the African debt crisis.
