Agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation searched the home of an Islamic leader in Columbia, Mo., this week, while another FBI team raided the nonprofit headquarters that used to employ the man, reports the Associated Press.
An FBI spokesman did not specify the reason for the searches of the home of Shakir Abdul-Kaf Hamoodi, where boxes and computer equipment were taken into federal custody, and of the offices of Life for Relief and Development, in Southfield, Mich., where Mr. Hamoodi had worked.
Mr. Hamoodi, a former University of Missouri professor, said he cooperated with the investigation.
Ihsan Alkhatib, an official with the charity, said the government is investigating the charity’s operations prior to the Iraq war. He said the organization conducted its business within the law.
It is not clear whether the two searches are connected, the news agency reports.
