Federal Agency Identifies Public-Service Leaders

For nearly 30 years, the Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation has been providing aid to college students who are expected to become top leaders in government, nonprofit organizations, and other institutions, reports The Washington Post.

The foundation, a government agency, has an endowment of $55-million. It picks 75 young people annually to nurture and support as they work toward leadership roles.

Among the alumni of the program are Janet Napolitano, Arizona’s governor, and Bill Mercer, U.S. attorney for the district of Montana.

One of this year’s recipients, Saul Garlick, has already founded a nonprofit group: the Student Movement for Real Change, which has raised money to help poor people in Africa.
