Federal Court Will Rule on Donor Anonymity

A federal court has been asked to consider whether advocacy organizations must make the names of their donors public, reports the Los Angeles Times.
The case involves a lawsuit by the California Pro-Life Council, which contested the State of California’s ruling that the group was required to disclose the name of its supporters.
California state officials said they made their ruling based on the rules that apply to political-action committees. However, the council says that most of its activities are nonpolitical and therefore it should be able to protect its donors’ identities, just as other nonprofit groups are allowed to do.
