The federal government is providing $65,000 over two years to help train nonprofit leaders, according to Arizona State University’s Center for Nonprofit Leadership and Management, which is one of the beneficiaries.
Other organizations supported by the Education Department grant include the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University and the Johnson Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership at Grand Valley State University.
The grant money will be used to examine existing degree and non-degree programs in nonprofit management, philanthropic studies, and social entrepreneurship in the United States and Europe.
A database of educational programs, academic programs, and standard requirements for internships will be developed. The consortium also plans to design curriculums that can be used in graduate and undergraduate programs.
The universities will work with officials in England, Italy, and Sweden, where efforts are under way to develop nonprofit leadership programs.
