Fla. Charities Complain of Rising Insurance Costs
September 6, 2006
Rising property-insurance costs in Florida have forced some charities to consider cutting staff size or programs to pay the fees or forgo insurance altogether, reports the St. Petersburg Times.
For example, property-insurance rates for the Homeless Emergency Project, in Clearwater, have more than doubled in the last three years, to $120,000. And the organization has not been able to get wind insurance for a few buildings where it houses poor people.
