Fla. Survey Finds Wide Range in Nonprofit Pay

A survey of several hundred charities in and around Palm Beach, Fla., found the median pay of executives there was about $50,000, but the range varied widely, from $12,000 to more than $400,000 annually, reports The Palm Beach Post.
While some donors may be surprised by the high pay of some nonprofit executives, such salaries are not out of the norm, the paper reports. The survey of 780 organizations in Palm Beach, Martin, and St. Lucie counties was based on public information the charities file with the Internal Revenue Service.
The highest paid charity executive in the three counties was Donald E. Ross, former president of Lynn University, in Boca Raton, who earned $524,717 in 2005.
