Food Charity in Georgia Cuts Staff

July 7, 2010

Angel Food Ministries, in Monroe, Ga., has laid off 49 of its 260 employees and has cut the salaries of its management staff by 20 percent, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The charity, which sells food at reduced prices to the needy, plans to charge less for a box of food. Usually the group charges $30 for a box of food worth about $50, but the reduced price means needy people will be able to purchase the boxes for as low as $25 each. A charity official said rising food prices prompted the layoffs and other cost-saving measures.
