‘Fortune’: Charities Seen as Good Employers

February 7, 2008 | Read Time: 1 minute

Several nonprofit organizations are included in Fortune magazine’s new list of the 100 best places to work (February 4).

Most of the groups that were included focus on health care. The highest-ranked organization was Methodist Hospital System, in Houston, which took spot No. 10, behind companies like Google (which ranked No. 1), Goldman Sachs, and Starbucks.

One reason the hospital system, which employs more than 10,000 people, got such high marks was a program it added last year called “No Ones Dies Alone,” in which employees volunteer time with terminal patients.

Among the other organizations are the Mayo Clinic (No. 59), in Rochester, Minn., and Lehigh Valley Hospital & Health Network (No. 85), in Allentown, Pa. The article is available online.
