Foundation Awards $100-Million for Cancer Research
September 22, 2006
The Starr Foundation, in New York, has pledged $100-million to support collaborative cancer research among five institutions—Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Rockefeller University and Weill Cornell Medical College, all in New York State, and the Broad Institute, in Cambridge, Mass., reports The New York Times.
A committee of representatives from the foundation and each research center will review cancer-research proposals involving scientists from at least two of the institutions, and decide which projects will receive funds.
The Starr Foundation makes grants to organizations that focus on culture, education, medicine, and services for poor people.
