Foundation Site Promotes Disclosure

The Foundation Center has started a new Web site—Glasspockets.org—to highlight efforts by grant makers to let the public know about their activities.
The site lists the technology tools that 64 of the 100 largest U.S. foundations use to inform the public about their work and includes links to the grant makers’ Twitter feeds, Facebook pages, online grants databases, and other sources of information.
The name of the site was inspired by Russell Leffingwell, who was chairman of the Carnegie Corporation in 1952, when he told a Congressional hearing: “We think that the foundation should have glass pockets.”
