Foundations Award $4.3-Million to Help People Harmed by 9/11 Attacks

February 26, 2007 | Read Time: 1 minute

Seven organizations will combine their resources to give $4.3-million to help people who developed serious respiratory or other illnesses after the World Trade Towers collapsed during the terrorist attacks of 2001, reports The New York Times.

The Ford Foundation, the New York Community Trust, the New York Times Neediest Cases Fund, and the Open Society Institute are each giving $1-million, and additional money is coming from the Altman Foundation, Trinity Church, and the United Way of New York City.

The organizations have formed the 9/11 Neediest Medical Campaign, which will continue to seek donations from the public to take care of all those who seek help.

The money will support the screening and treatment of uninsured workers, residents of the neighborhoods that surrounded the towers, and other people who may have been become ill by breathing in dust and other particles but are not eligible for federal aid.
