FRAUDULENT CHARITY
February 21, 2006
Twenty-six police officers in Queens, N.Y., are angry that their sergeant, Estella Holmes, forged their signatures to automatically deduct charitable contributions from their paychecks, reports The New York Daily News. The deductions were designated for the city’s Combined Municipal Campaign, and earmarked to provide assistance to the widows and orphans of police officers. Ms. Holmes admitted to the charges and received an official reprimand.
