The National Endowment for the Humanities is now offering grants to support high-tech projects such as CD-ROM’s, Web sites, or interactive video exhibits aimed at expanding audiences for the humanities. Libraries, museums, public television and radio stations, and other non-profit groups focused on the humanities are eligible to apply.
Grants will be awarded both to plan the projects and to implement them. The deadlines for applications for planning grants of up to $50,000 are November 2 and February 1. Implementation proposals are due February 1; the agency has not set a ceiling on exactly how much it will give away to successful applicants.
“We have no preconceived ideas of what we’re looking for,” says Jim Turner, a spokesman for the National Endowment for the Humanities.
