Reliable Fundraising in Unreliable Times: What Good Causes Need to Know to Survive and Thrive
by Kim Klein
Kim Klein, a fund-raising consultant and founder of the bimonthly Grassroots Fundraising Journal, says that nonprofit organizations make two major mistakes when it comes to raising money: concentrating too much effort on chasing dollars from foundations, corporations, and a few wealthy donors; and keeping silent in the debate about tax issues and how taxes can pay for important services.
Ms. Klein emphasizes the importance of personal relationships to fund-raising success. With that in mind, she advises charities to focus on how many people they ask to donate, rather than how much money they actually raise.
The book also explains how to build a volunteer fund-raising team, handle a financial crisis, and promote financial security over the long term.
