Gates Foundation Adding Staff to Handle Influx of Money

Flush with Warren Buffett’s recent announcement of a planned $31-billion donation, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will increase its staff to deal with the fund’s broadening focus, and expects to double the number of employees over the next three to five years, reports The Wall Street Journal. The Gates Foundation, which currently employs about 275 people, named Cheryl Scott as its new chief operating officer last month. The foundation plans to add staff members with experience in its traditional grant-making programs—including global health and disease research—as well as in agriculture, microloans, and other new areas.
