A Boston man is set to file a complaint with the state’s anti-discrimination office Thursday claiming that a Roman Catholic school withdrew an offer to hire him as its food-services director after learning he was married to a man, writes The Boston Globe.
Matthew Barrett, a food-industry veteran, said the job offer from Fontbonne Academy, a Milton, Mass., prep school for girls, was rescinded two days after he filled out paperwork for new employees and identified his husband as his emergency contact. He said he was told by a school official that it could not hire him because “the Catholic religion doesn’t recognize same-sex marriage.”
In a statement, Fontbonne said it could not comment on personnel matters or potential litigation. Catholic schools in several states have fired gay administrators recently over their marriages.
