Getty Museum Gives Up Greek Antiquities
July 11, 2006
The J. Paul Getty Museum, in Los Angeles, has agreed to return to Greece two of four antiquities that the Greek government says were taken illegally, reports The New York Times. Discussions are continuing on the other pieces.
The agreement comes as the museum seeks to resolve a claim by Italy to more than 50 objects and the indictment in Italy of the museum’s former antiquities curator, Marion True, on charges of conspiring to buy stolen artifacts. Ms. True has denied wrongdoing.
