Melvin Simon, an Indianapolis businessman, and his wife, Bren, have given $10-million to the Indianapolis Museum of Art to endow the position of museum director, reports The Indianapolis Star.
The gift, thought to be the largest of its kind, will free up money the museum would have spent on compensating its director so it can be used to expand programs, the Star reports. Ms. Simon is a life trustee of the museum.
The gift will pay for the $350,000 annual salary of the museum’s director, to be known as the Melvin & Bren Simon director and CEO.
The Simons have given to numerous charities and ranked No. 44 on The Chronicle’s list of the donors who gave the most to charity last year.
