Gifts Roundup: Jewish School Gets $20 Million; $5.4 Million for Iwo Jima Monument

The Jewish Primary Day School of the Nation’s Capital

The school announced a $20-million donation last week from two donors to build a middle school. Half of the money is from Alfred Moses, a former U.S. Ambassador to Romania, and the other $10 million is from the estate of Milton Gottesman, a lawyer who died in 2005, through the Gottesman Fund. The day school is being renamed for Mr. Gottesman and the middle school will be named for the Moses family.

Cornell University

Lisa Yang, a retired investment banker, gave $10 million to Cornell University for its Employment and Disability Institute, the university announced. The money will be used for research into workplace discrimination against disabled people and for disability education programs. Ms. Yang graduated from Cornell in 1974.

National Park Foundation

Washington financier David Rubenstein, gave nearly $5.4 million to the National Park Foundation to restore the U.S. Marine Corp War Memorial and its surrounding parkland, the organization reported. The monument depicts a flag-raising scene from Iwo Jima during World War II.

The University of Mississippi

The institution announced it received $5 million from Martha Dowd Dalrymple through the Dalrymple Family Foundation to endow teaching and research programs in the department of history. The department will be named for the donor’s late father, Arch Dalrymple III, who attended the university in the early 1940s.

California State University at Los Angeles

The university received $1.6 million from Erika Glazer, an heir to a commercial real-estate fortune, for a center to assist students who are in the country illegally, according to the university.
