A roundup of notable gifts compiled by The Chronicle:
University of Notre Dame
Kenneth and Pamela Ricci gave $5 million to create an outdoor home for the Band of the Fighting Irish and a facility for students participating in recreational sports.
The complex, to be called Ricci Family Fields, includes a fully lit, artificial-turf football field that will be used by the marching band for rehearsals. When not in use by the band, that field and two others, as well as storage, locker-room, and other facilities, will be available for athletic activities in which some 10,000 students participate annually.
Mr. Ricci, a Notre Dame alumnus, played in the marching band as an undergraduate. He is the principal of Directional Aviation Capital, a Cleveland-based operator of private aviation companies.
Riddle Hospital
The Media, Pa., medical center, part of the Main Line Health system, received $16 million from a trust established by the will of John Bancker Gribbel to create an endowment supporting patient care.
Mr. Gribbel, who died in 1947 at age 63, and his family were patients at the former Media Hospital and of Dr. Charles Schoff, who founded the institution in 1909.
Queen of the Valley Foundation
Ron and Betty Profili pledged a $5-million estate gift to support the Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa County, Calif. The hospital’s imaging center will be renamed for the couple. Once realized, the gift will go into an endowment fund, with proceeds directed to the Peggy Herman Neuroscience Center and other hospital facilities.
The Profilis built their estate through investments in commercial and residential property in Orange County, Calif., and the San Francisco Bay and North Bay areas.
Massachusetts Maritime Academy
William “Bud” and Barbara “B.A.” Flanagan pledged $3 million to support student scholarships and capital projects at the 125-year-old school.
An academy building will be renamed for Mr. Flanagan, an alumnus and retired U.S. Navy admiral who worked at financial firm Cantor Fitzgerald and is now CEO of software developer Noragh Analytics.
Florida State University at Panama City
Bob and Judy Fleming announced a $3 million pledge to establish the Robert H. and Jacqueline K. Fleming Endowed Scholarship Fund. The program will support up to 80 students annually with preference given to first-generation college students.
Mr. Fleming helped develop fabrics for athletics-gear companies, including Champion, Wilson, and Russell. His late wife, Jacqueline Fleming, was a teacher. His current wife, Judy Fleming, is a retired American Airlines flight attendant.
Kean University Foundation
Maxine Lane left her nearly $1.7-million retirement fund to create an endowment with the foundation supporting the New Jersey university.
Ms. Lane, a Kean alumnus, died in May at age 90. Her late husband, Jack Lane, was an employee of the Mobil Corporation.
