Abe’s Garden (Nashville): Appointed Andrew B. Sandler, assisted-living director at the Weinberg Community for Senior Living (Deerfield, Ill.), to be executive director and chief executive officer. This organization provides care and services to people with Alzheimer’s disease.
Boston Opportunity Agenda: Appointed Kristin McSwain, chief of program operations for the Corporation for National and Community Service (Washington), to be executive director. Boston Opportunity Agenda is a collaboration between Boston Public Schools, the City of Boston, and several foundations to improve educational opportunities for Boston residents.
Canary Foundation: (San Jose, Calif.): Appointed Ronica Sanders Smucker, senior director of principal gifts in the School of Medicine at Stanford U. (Calif.), to be executive director. This organization raises money for research into early detection of cancer.
Easter Seals Michigan (Auburn Hills): Appointed Laura Covintree, chief development officer at Lighthouse Oakland County (Pontiac, Mich.), to be director of marketing and development, and Rich Hollis, director of finance at Southeast Michigan Area Rapid Transit (Detroit), to be senior vice president of finance and operations.
Epilepsy Foundation (Landover, Md.): Appointed Richard P. Denness, vice president and general manager of the central nervous system division at UCB (Smyrna, Ga.), to be executive director. He succeeds Eric R. Hargis, who has resigned.
Give2Asia (San Francisco): Appointed Barnett F. Baron, executive vice president at the Asia Foundation (San Francisco), to be president and chief executive officer.
Global FoodBanking Network (Chicago): Appointed Jeffrey D. Klein, managing director of Equity Group Investments (Chicago), to be president and chief executive officer. He succeeds Bob Forney, founder, who died in August.
Goodwill Industries of Central Indiana (Indianapolis): Appointed Zaida Monell, senior director of community and workplace initiatives, to be vice president for employee and organization development.
Grand Valley State U., Dorothy A. Johnson Center for Philanthropy (Allendale, Mich.): Appointed James Edwards, director of the center’s Community Research Institute, to be executive director. He succeeds Kathy Agard, who has retired.
Honolulu Academy of Arts (Honolulu): Appointed Stephan Jost, director of the Shelburne Museum (Shelburne, Vt.), to be director of the Honolulu Academy of Arts, effective May 2.
Indiana U. Foundation (Bloomington): Appointed Christopher Ritrievi, executive director of development for the arts at the U. of Utah (Salt Lake City), to be vice president of development, and Elizabeth Blevins, vice president for account services at Finelight (Bloomington, Ind.), to be director of annual giving.
Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum (New York): Appointed Susan Marenoff, executive director, to be president.
Marine Corps Heritage Foundation (Triangle, Va.): Appointed Robert R. (Rusty) Blackman Jr., retired commander of the Marine Corps Forces Command in Norfolk, Va., to be president and chief executive, effective in the summer. He succeeds Ron Christmas, who is retiring.
Military Families United (Washington): Appointed Robert Jackson, director of government affairs, to be executive director.
Minnesota AIDS Project (Minneapolis): Announced the retirement of Lorraine Teel, executive director, effective in April.
Opera Company of Philadelphia: Appointed David B. Devan, managing director, to be general director. Robert B. Driver, current general and artistic director, will remain as artistic director.
Pencil (New York): Appointed Denise A. Nelson, associate vice president of major gifts at United Way of New York City, to be vice president of resource development. This organization build relationships between school principals and business leaders to improve public schools.
Promise Neighborhoods Institute at PolicyLink (Oakland, Calif.): Appointed Michael McAfee, senior community planning and development representative in the Chicago regional office of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, to be its inaugural director.
Reading Is Fundamental (Washington): Appointed Judy Blankenship Cheatham, professor of English at Greensboro College (N.C.), to be vice president of literacy services.
Scott & White Healthcare (Temple, Tex.): Appointed Robert W. Pryor, chief operating officer, to be president and chief executive, effective April 15. Alfred B. Knight, current president and chief executive, will become president of the foundation.
Shelter Network (Burlingame, Calif.) Appointed Karae Lisle, chief marketing officer at the Computer History Museum (Mountain View, Calif.), to be executive director. She succeeds Michele Jackson, who plans to retire.
