GLOBAL WARMING AND CHRISTIAN LEADERS
February 8, 2006
A group of 86 evangelical Christian leaders have called for federal legislation to stop global warming, reports The New York Times. While not an issue traditionally backed by Christian conservatives, the group states that the environmental phenomenon is a cause for concern. Signers of the statement include the presidents of 39 evangelical colleges and the heads of several aid groups, including the Salvation Army. However, another 22 leaders, including James C. Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family, submitted a letter to the National Association of Evangelicals asking the umbrella group not to take an official position against global warming.
