May 23, 2014
Online balloting began Thursday in a $5-million Google-funded contest seeking “the most innovative ideas for making the Bay Area stronger,” the San Francisco Chronicle writes.
Ten local nonprofit groups active in education, health, the arts, and other areas are competing in the vote, which runs through June 2, after being selected by a panel of Bay Area politicians, community leaders, and celebrities. All 10 organizations will get at least $250,000 to implement their projects, with the top four vote-getters receiving $500,000.
Google also named 14 runners-up that will each get $100,000 grants.
