Google.org Awards $10 Million to Feeding America to Bolster Food Banks

Here are notable new grant awards compiled by the Chronicle:

Perot Foundation and the Sarah and Ross Perot Jr. Foundation

$50 million to the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center to create an endowment for the Perot Family Scholars Medical Scientist Training Program, a dual-degree program that awards medical and doctorate degrees to physician-scientists from the UT Southwestern Medical School and UT Southwestern Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.

John M. Belk Endowment

$25 million over 10 years to North Carolina State University to continue the work of the Belk Center for Community College Leadership and Research.

Delta Dental of Colorado Foundation

$11 million to more than 40 organizations in Colorado to expand access to oral-health care.

Rockefeller Foundation

$11 million to 10 organizations to promote Indigenous and regenerative agricultural practices around the world to mitigate climate change’s damage to the global food system.

Google.org

$10 million to Feeding America to provide 50 million meals during the holiday season and upgrade technology across its network of food banks and pantries throughout the United States.

Google is also donating $10 million in ad credit for local food banks and pantries to connect with people who are searching for resources or ways to give.

Conrad N. Hilton Foundation

$10 million to the International Rescue Committee for a three-year project to improve early-childhood development for children under 5 and create jobs for refugees and host communities in Uganda.

Steele Foundation

$10 million to the University of Arizona Health Sciences to create the Daniel Cracchiolo Institute for Pediatric Autoimmune Disease Research.

Perenchio Foundation

More than $9.4 million over three years to a variety of arts and cultural organizations for general operating support.

Among the recipients, the Japanese American National Museum, the Los Angeles Master Chorale, and the Museum of Latin American Art each received $2.55 million. MUSE/IQUE was awarded $1.4 million. The Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles received $348,000.

Arnold Ventures

$7.4 million to 14 research projects that will study the policies and decisions of 40 prosecutor offices in 19 states and generate insight into racial disparities and outcomes in the U.S. criminal-justice system.

Jewish Federations of North America

$7 million to the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee and other humanitarian groups that are preparing to provide emergency winter aid for more than 22,000 Ukrainian Jews who have fled to neighboring countries.

Boeing Company

$5 million to Washington State University to build a new student-success center at the Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture.

Cummings Foundation

$5 million to current grantees that are expanding within their communities in Massachusetts. The grants were unsolicited.

Grants of $1 million each went to the Sportsmen’s Tennis and Enrichment Center, the Merrimack Valley Food Bank, and Plummer Youth Promise. Grants of $500,000 each were awarded to Freedom House, Lawrence Community Works, Acre Family Child Care, and the Urban Farming Institute.

Timken Foundation

$5 million commitment to the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center to support the James P. Allison Institute, which conducts multidisciplinary research on immunobiology to improve science’s understanding of the immune system.

Wana Brands Foundation

$3 million to Johns Hopkins University for research on cannabis and cannabinoid compounds as a treatment for autism, as well as research on psychedelics’ effects on behavior, mood, cognition, brain function, and the biological markers of health.

Gary Sinise Foundation

$1.5 million to the Travis Mills Foundation to treat post-traumatic stress in combat veterans and first responders and to support other programs at its health and wellness center in Maine.

Aerojet Rocketdyne Foundation

$1 million to the Smithsonian Institution’s National Air and Space Museum for its new Destination Moon exhibition.

Christensen Fund

$1 million to Native Americans in Philanthropy to create a fund that will make direct investments in Native American tribes that are working to conserve and protect their ancestral lands and waterways in the United States.

Fiesta Bowl Charities

$1 million in grants to 400 teachers in Arizona. The schools in 72 cities and towns each received $2,500 for technology improvements, new programs, equipment, supplies, and other needs.

J. Paul Getty Trust

$1 million commitment to the International Alliance for the Protection of Heritage in Conflict Areas for its projects to help museums, libraries, archives, and historic sites in Ukraine safeguard cultural artifacts during the country’s war with Russia.

MGM Resorts International

$1 million over five years to the Grant a Gift Autism Foundation-Ackerman Center. The grant will support its job-placement program, which provides training and employment opportunities at MGM hotels and casinos in Las Vegas for job seekers with autism.

Quantum Foundation

$1 million in unrestricted grants to 120 grassroots organizations that cover basic needs for residents of Florida’s Palm Beach County.

New Grant Opportunity

The Ms. Foundation for Women is accepting proposals for grants from its Ms. South program, which strengthens financial sustainability and professional development at organizations with leaders who are women and girls of color. In this round, the foundation will make $1.5 million in grants to groups in Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia. Applications are due January 13.
