GQ Criticized for Naming Tony Blair ‘Philanthropist of the Year’

GQ magazine is defending its decision to give Tony Blair its “philanthropist of the year” award, according to the Daily Mirror and the BBC.
The honor was bestowed Monday at a party hosted by GQ editor Dylan Jones at the Royal Opera House in London. The former British Prime Minister has “channeled his energy into philanthropy, establishing three charities,” GQ says on its website.
Several British politicians, among others, criticized the choice of recipient, saying that it sent the wrong message and should have gone to a more deserving individual. Mr. Blair served as prime minister from 1997 to 2007 and his often criticized for having steered Britain into its military involvement in the Middle East.
