COMMUNITY FOUNDATION FOR THE NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION

To provide basic human services to needy people: $714,300 to be divided among 37 charities in the Washington area

KAISER PERMANENTE

For efforts to provide basic human services: $1-million to be divided among 17 organizations throughout Northern California

WAL-MART FOUNDATION

To meet the basic health, hunger, and hygiene needs of students in Springfield, Mo., schools: $50,000 to the Foundation for Springfield Schools
