Here are notable new grant awards compiled by the Chronicle:

AbbVie

$100 million from the biopharmaceutical company to be split between Direct Relief and Habitat for Humanity International to rebuild Puerto Rico’s health-care system and improve access to affordable, disaster-resilient housing in the U.S. territory, which is still suffering the effects of last year’s Hurricane Maria.

The University of Michigan at Ann Arbor got $30 million to establish the Chad Carr Pediatric Brain Tumor Center, in honor of a 5-year-old who died in 2015 from inoperable brain cancer.

$30 million to the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor to establish the Chad Carr Pediatric Brain Tumor Center. Thousands of donors gave to this foundation in honor of Chad Carr, a 5-year-old who died in 2015 from inoperable brain cancer.

Highmark Health

$25 million to the Penn State Cancer Institute for specialized cancer care and research in central Pennsylvania.

$15 million to Parkland Health & Hospital System to establish a new comprehensive breast-health center in Dallas.

Block.one

$3 million to Virginia Tech to help computer-science students build technical skills in blockchain, a system of accounting for Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

Andrew W. Mellon Foundation

$3 million to Duke University to augment its humanities curriculum and related programs outside the university.

Clayco

$2 million to the Missouri University of Science and Technology to expand its Advanced Construction and Materials Laboratory.

Institute of Design and Construction Foundation

$2 million to the New York Institute of Technology for its architecture and design programs.

$1 million to the National Air and Space Museum to build a design hangar in its “How Things Fly” exhibition.

Prudential Financial

$1 million to the Newark Museum to expand its community programs in New Jersey.

New Grant Opportunity

The Medtronic Foundation is seeking project applications to improve health-care access and outcomes for underserved populations, particularly addressing chronic conditions and noncommunicable diseases. Health organizations and other related groups may apply for one-year grants worth $50,000 to $100,000; up to 10 grants will be awarded. Applications are due June 14.
