Here are notable new grant awards compiled by The Chronicle:

Kresge Foundation

$16 million to Marygrove College, a liberal-arts college in Detroit that nearly closed its doors in 2017, to boost enrollment and strengthen its financial footing.

Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation

$6 million challenge grant for Explore & More Children’s Museum, in Buffalo, for construction and an endowment.

Wilf Family Foundation

$5 million to the Jewish Agency for Israel’s Senior Affordable Housing Initiative, an effort to help 27,000 low-income Israeli seniors, half of whom are Holocaust survivors, move into permanent and affordable housing in Israel.

Consumer Credit Counseling Service of West Florida

$1.5 million to the University of West Florida College of Business to establish a new center for financial literacy.


Aetna Foundation

$1 million to the North Carolina Harm Reduction Coalition for its Rural Opioid Overdose Prevention Project.

New Grant Opportunities

Bloomberg Philanthropies is now accepting applications for grants through its Public Art Challenge. Grants of up to $1 million are available for public-art installations that address civic issues in U.S. cities with at least 30,000 residents. Art projects across all disciplines and media are eligible. Last year, four grants of $1 million each were awarded. Applications must come through the mayor’s office in each city and are due April 19.

AARP is soliciting nominations for its annual Purpose Prize, which recognizes people over age 50 who have dedicated their “second career” to outstanding community-focused work or volunteering. Five honorees will each receive a $60,000 cash prize, and an additional 10 winners will receive $5,000 apiece as Purpose Prize Fellows. Nominations may be submitted online through March 6.
