Grants Roundup: Batten Foundation Endows Business-School Scholarships

Here are notable new grant awards compiled by the Chronicle:

Batten Foundation

$15 million matching grant to the University of Virginia to endow an international scholarship program at the Darden School of Business.

Cochlear Ltd.

$10 million to Johns Hopkins University’s Bloomberg School of Public Health for a new research center on hearing and public health.

Koret Foundation

$10 million over five years to create the Koret Program for Smart Cities and Digital Living, a collaboration between Stanford University, Tel Aviv University, and the University of California at Berkeley to conduct multidisciplinary research in bioinformatics, computational biology, smart cities, and digital living.

Frenchman’s Creek Beach & Country Club

$1.5 million in proceeds from its annual golf tournament to Jupiter Medical Center for the Anderson Family Cancer Institute.


Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation

$1.2 million to the University of California at Los Angeles for research on digestive syndromes like inflammatory bowel disease at the David Geffen School of Medicine.

Walton Family Foundation

$1.2 million to the Big River Strategic Initiative to add 30 miles of bike paths to the Big River Trail, which follows the Mississippi River in Arkansas.

Arthur Vining Davis Foundations

$1 million to Interfaith Youth Core for a collaboration with American Colleges & Universities to promote interfaith programs on college campuses.

Lilly Endowment

$1 million to Ashland Theological Seminary for its Thriving Church Ministries certificate program to create experiential-learning opportunities for pastors.

New Grant Opportunity

Action for Healthy Kids is offering grants to schools that offer free breakfast for low-income students. Up to 250 schools will receive breakfast grants of $2,000 to $3,000. Priority will be given to schools where more than 40 percent of students are eligible for free or reduced-price meals. The application deadline is April 6.
