Grants Roundup: Foundations’ $20-Million Commitment Targets Urban Spaces

Here are notable new grant awards compiled by The Chronicle:
JPB Foundation, John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, Kresge Foundation, and Rockefeller Foundation
$20 million for projects to improve neglected or underused public spaces in Akron, Ohio; Chicago; Detroit; and Memphis. The grants will be matched with $20 million from local sources.
Marnier-Lapostolle Foundation
$5.8 million to the Foundation for Angelman Syndrome Therapeutics for research about Angelman syndrome, a rare neurological condition.
Aetna Foundation
$2 million to 23 nonprofits working to improve community health through programs that address nutrition, physical fitness, and mental health.
Nasdaq Educational Foundation
$1.2 million to Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs for residencies, classes, and seminars focusing on entrepreneurship, technology, and public policy.
Pen Air Federal Credit Union
$1 million to the University of West Florida in support of its football program.
Nilpeter USA
A flexographic printing press worth $900,000 to Clemson University’s graphic-communications program.
