Grants Roundup: Hilton Launches New Phase of Foster-Care Support

Here are notable new grant awards compiled by The Chronicle:
Conrad N. Hilton Foundation
$25.5 million through 31 grants to nonprofits working in a variety of causes, including substance abuse and clean water.
More than $1.5 million in total went to two organizations, Graham Windham ($720,000) and the Children’s Data Network at the University of Southern California’s Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work ($825,000) as part of the next phase of the foundation’s Foster Youth Strategic Initiative. The newly approved strategy aims to help teenagers who are transitioning out of foster care. It has spent $53.5 million on the cause thus far.
The San Francisco Foundation
$11.5 million to 140 local nonprofits working to achieve racial and economic equity in the Bay Area.
The Fifth Third Foundation and Fifth Third Bank
$10 million to Cincinnati Cancer Consortium, a collaboration of the University of Cincinnati, UC Health, and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, to recruit and hire researchers.
John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation
Nearly $10 million to Chicago organizations that seek to prevent gun violence. Recipients include Black Youth Project 100, Cabrini Green Legal Aid, and Latinos Progresando.
The McGregor Fund
More than $5.5 million to 42 nonprofits working to alleviate poverty through providing basic needs, teaching skills, and helping people recover from abuse, trauma, and substance abuse.
Carnegie Corporation of New York and John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation
$4.4 million to 11 organizations that work to reduce nuclear risk. Recipients include Fundação Getúlio Vargas, Partnership for a Secure America, and Stockholm International Peace Research Institute.
