Grants Roundup: U. of St. Thomas Receives $50 Million for Business Scholarships

Here are notable new grant awards compiled by The Chronicle:

GHR Foundation

$50 million over eight years to the University of St. Thomas to endow scholarships for business majors.

Ray and Tye Noorda Foundation

$50 million to Wasatch Educational to create the Noorda College of Osteopathic Medicine, in Provo, Utah.

Alfred P. Sloan Foundation

$16 million to New York University for the Astrophysical Research Consortium to make a three-dimensional map of the universe.

National Fish and Wildlife Foundation

$12.7 million to the Mobile County Commission to protect and restore 30 acres of coastal marshland with a degraded shoreline along Mobile Bay, in Alabama


Chan Zuckerberg Initiative

$12.1 to Harvard University for the Phillips Brooks House Association to offer fellowships and scholarships for low-income students who are pursuing careers in public service.

Jerome L. Greene Foundation

$10 million for New York Public Radio’s strategic content programs.

Sunderland Foundation

$10 million challenge grant to Johnson County Community College to match gifts to its Career and Technical Education Center.

Sanford Health

$5 million to Northern State University to endow educational programs and scholarships and permanent endowments at the Regional Science Education Center.

Kenan Charitable Trust

$1.1 million to Johnson C. Smith University for a pilot program to increase middle- and high-school students’ interest in computer science, entrepreneurship, and STEM careers.


Ford Foundation

$1 million to the National Trust for Historic Preservation for the African-American Cultural Heritage Action Fund, which aims to preserve historical sites important to African-American history.

New Grant Opportunity

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation is offering a total of $2.5 million in grants to charities both within and outside of the health sector that are working to improve interpersonal connections within communities and reduce social isolation across all age groups in the United States. The deadline is December 21. Please see the foundation’s website for more information.
