Grateful Patient Gives Mayo Clinic $27.5-Million
January 12, 2007
W. Hall Wendel Jr., a retired chairman and chief executive of Polaris Industries, has given $27.5-million to the Mayo Clinic, reports The Wall Street Journal.
After the Minnesota hospital replaced both of Mr. Wendel’s knees in 2005—and then both of his shoulders—he made the gift to support Mayo’s Musculoskeletal Center and research fund. Some of the money—$2 million—will endow a research professorship.
“Whether you are a sheik in Middle Eastern dress or a farmer in bib overalls, they treat everybody the same,” he said.
