Greenpeace and McDonald’s Team Up on Rainforest Project

The environmental group Greenpeace and McDonald’s restaurants have joined forces to prevent deforestation in the Amazon rainforest, reports The Washington Post.
Greenpeace had staged protests against McDonald’s after learning that Cargill, a large international company, supplied the fast-food giant with soy (for chicken feed) from Brazilian farmers who cleared virgin forests to grow soybeans. The nonprofit group demanded more environmentally friendly practices. The company agreed, and together they pushed for changes from Cargill.
Cargill has since persuaded the biggest soy distributors in Brazil to accept a two-year ban on purchasing soy from newly deforested areas.
