Grist and American Zionist Movement Name New Top Executives

Former Gates Foundation program officer Brady Piñero Walkinshaw is the new CEO of Grist, a nonprofit newsroom covering environmental issues.

Brady Piñero Walkinshaw has been appointed chief executive of the environmental-news nonprofit. He will succeed Grist’s founder, Chip Giller, who will take on a new role at the Seattle-based organization, launching a platform focused on solutions to environmental challenges and building a network of green leaders and advocates.

Mr. Walkinshaw is a former Washington state legislator who ran last year to represent Washington’s 7th Congressional District but lost to Pramila Jayapal, who became the first Indian-American woman elected to Congress. Prior to entering politics he was a program officer at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

University of Pennsylvania

Risa Lavizzo-Mourey, who is stepping down as president of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation next month after 14 years leading the health-focused grant maker, will join the faculty at the University of Pennsylvania in the new position of Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Population Health and Health Equity Professor.

Dr. Lavizzo-Mourey, a physician, will have joint faculty appointments in Penn’s Perelman School of Medicine, Wharton School, and School of Nursing. She earned an MBA from the Wharton School in the 1980s and headed the university’s Institute on Aging before joining Robert Wood Johnson.

American Zionist Movement

Herbert Block will become the organization’s executive director, succeeding Karen Rubinstein, who is retiring after 36 years at the helm. Mr. Block, who most recently worked as a consultant, is a former assistant executive vice president for the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee.

Association for Institutional Research

Christine Keller, vice president for research and policy analysis at the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities, was appointed executive director.

Management Sciences for Health

Marian Wentworth, a former pharmaceutical executive, was named CEO. She spent 27 years at Merck, most recently serving as vice president for global vaccines strategy and innovation.

Students Rising Above

Carolina Martín, senior vice president at DonorsChoose.org, will become executive director.

Other notable appointments

Giselle Antoni, former chief executive of Dallas education nonprofit Big Thought, will serve as director of learning and enrichment at the Wallace Foundation.

Ron Clewer, chief executive of the Rockford Housing Authority and Bridge Rockford Alliance in Illinois, was appointed chief operating officer at the Alliance for Strong Families and Communities.

James Garvey, associate dean of the Charles Widger School of Law at Villanova University, will become vice president for university advancement at Holy Family University.

Consultants on the move

Elizabeth Zeigler was promoted to chief executive of Graham-Pelton Consulting, a global fundraising and nonprofit-management firm. She has served as the company’s president since 2010. Ms. Zeigler will succeed the company’s founder Craig Leach, who is stepping down after 19 years to serve as chairman and chief executive of Collegium Holdings, Graham-Pelton’s parent company.

Departures

Amber Dixon plans to step down as CEO of the Buffalo Center for Arts and Technology later this year.

Ana LaDou, executive director of the Alliance for Nonprofit Management, will step down on March 15 to focus on her consulting business.

Legacy

Anne Friedman Glauber, founder of Let’s Win, an organization that shares news on treatments and trials for pancreatic cancer, died on February 28 after fighting the disease for three years. She was 63. Ms. Glauber was a managing partner at the communications firm Finn Partners and founded its corporate social responsibility and social issues practice.
