Group Questions Spy-Case Judge’s Charity Role

August 23, 2006 | Read Time: 1 minute

The U.S. District Court judge who recently ruled that President Bush’s domestic-surveillance program is unconstitutional is a trustee at a community foundation that gave money to the American Civil Liberties Union, which opposes the spying program, reports the Associated Press.

Judge Anna Diggs Taylor’s involvement as secretary and trustee for the Community Foundation for Southeastern Michigan came under scrutiny when Judicial Watch, a conservative group, discovered her connection. Judicial Watch says Judge Taylor’s involvement may constitute a conflict of interest.

The Community Foundation gave $45,000 to the ACLU to support a gay-rights project. Judge Taylor did not comment for the story.
