Minding the Money: An Investment Guide for Nonprofit Board Members, by Robert P. Fry Jr., is designed to help board members supervise their organizations’ investments. Mr. Fry, a financial adviser from Irvine, Calif., offers advice on determining investment goals and restrictions and deciding how much risk groups should undertake. He describes state rules governing the oversight of investments by board members and gives recommendations on choosing investment advisers. The guide also discusses aspects of investments that are particularly relevant to nonprofit groups, including gifts of stocks from donors and investing in “socially responsible” companies. An accompanying CD-ROM contains sample investment policies and Internet links to relevant state laws.
