Miriam Krinsky, executive director of the Children’s Law Center of Los Angeles, a nonprofit group that represents abused children, resigned last week amid turmoil that some lawyers contend put thousands of young clients at risk, the Los Angeles Times reports.
Ms. Krinsky will continue doing policy work at the organization.
The center represents about 80 percent of the 30,000 abused children whose fate is being determined by the courts in Los Angeles County. Ms. Krinsky’s reassignment comes after two years of internal strife at the center, fueled by a push to merge three independently operating legal units of the organization into one entity.
The three divisions used to separately represent mothers, fathers, and children involved in custody cases, but the group now handles only the cases of children.
In a letter to staff members announcing the change, Ms. Krinsky acknowledged that the center had faced troubles carrying out the restructuring.
