House Committee Votes to Cut Public Broadcasting Funding

The House Appropriations Committee voted on Tuesday to cut federal aid to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and to eventually deny it any federal funds, reports Reuters.
Federal broadcasting aid is voted on two years in advance of when it is actually spent, so the reductions voted on by the committee would not be felt for a while.
The committee voted to cut $400-million for 2009, a reduction of 17.4 percent, and to give the Corporation for Public Broadcasting no money for its 2010 budget.
While House members have often voted to cut spending for public broadcasting, it is often restored by the Senate.
