How to Manage Feelings of Burnout

Many nonprofit employees do a poor job of managing stress related to work, says Nathan Hand, vice president for development at the School on Wheels in Indianapolis and a nonprofit blogger.

“We need to refresh, we need to rejuvenate, because we’ll be so much better after,” Mr. Hand says.

Some of his advice includes scheduling time to relax and reflect, focusing on the most important priorities for a week, and purposefully unplugging from the steady stream of e-mails, phone calls, and social-media updates.
