June 7, 2007
Technology in the form of high-resolution satellite cameras is helping human-rights activists document and prevent the ongoing violence in the embattled Darfur region of Sudan, reports the Associated Press.
Amnesty International, which has contracts with commercial satellites, has created a Web site that shows the images.
Ariela Blatter, director of the Crisis Prevention and Response Center for Amnesty International USA, says, “We’re hoping that by shining a light that we will deter the abuse from ever happening.”
