Humane Society, Global Fund for Women Tap New CEOs (Transitions)

Kitty Block has been permanently installed as president and CEO after leading the animal-rights organization on an interim basis for nearly a year. A lawyer who previously served as president of the Humane Society’s international arm, she was promoted to acting chief after Wayne Pacelle stepped down following allegations of sexual misconduct last January.

City Year

Michael Brown, who co-founded the national-service organization 30 years ago, will step down as CEO in June. A successor has not yet been named.

Maria Torres-Springer, commissioner of the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development, will be the grant maker’s new vice president for U.S. programs, beginning in May. She succeeds Xavier de Souza Briggs, who plans to depart at the end of 2019.

Global Fund for Women

Latanya Mapp Frett, executive director of Planned Parenthood Global, the international arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, will become president and CEO of the Global Fund for Women on July 1. She succeeds Musimbi Kanyoro, who is retiring after eight years running the human-rights group.

More New CEOs

Lisa Fiorentino, chief operating officer at Indian Hill Music, has been promoted to CEO. She succeeds Susan Randazzo, co-founder and executive director since 2001, who is staying on to assist fundraising efforts at this music-education and performance center in Massachusetts.

Neil Kornze has been tapped as CEO of the Campion Foundation and its 501(c)4 arm, the Campion Advocacy Fund, which together work to conserve public land, reduce homelessness, and build capacity at nonprofit groups. Until 2017, Kornze was director of the Bureau of Land Management during President Obama’s administration.

Kathleen Lobb has become managing director of philanthropy of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and executive director of the ASME Foundation. She was chief communications strategist of the Entertainment Industry Foundation, where she also co-founded Stand Up to Cancer.

Jody Skenderian has been named chief institutional advancement officer at Normandale Community College and executive director of the Normandale Community College Foundation. Previously she was CEO of California’s Central Coast Council of the Girl Scouts.

Eve Stacey, global leader of go-to-market strategy and operations at SAP Concur, has been named president of Benevity, a company that helps corporations run drives to encourage employees to give to charity. She will oversee the social-responsibility software company’s operations in the client success, sales, marketing, international, and strategic partnership areas.

Diane Vaughan has been named president of the Foundation of Wesley Woods, which raises money to offer housing and services for older adults in Georgia. She was most recently development director for the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center at the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Foundation.

The $514 million grant maker has hired two new program directors.

John Bae, an adviser at the Art for Justice Fund, will lead its criminal-justice program.

Galit Lipa was most recently a supervising lawyer in the District of Columbia’s Public Defender Service and will now direct the foundation’s youth-justice program.

Other Notable Appointments

Perry Cammack, principal architect of the Arab World Horizons program at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, has become program director of the peace-building program at the Rockefeller Brothers Fund.

Yakov Feygin, a fellow in history and policy at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government and managing editor of the Private Debt Project, will now be associate director of the Future of Capitalism program at the Berggruen Institute.

Jonathan Lever is now chief operating officer and executive vice president at the Fetzer Institute. He most recently served as executive vice president of the YMCA of the USA.

Linh Nguyen has joined the Nonprofit Professionals Advisory Group as vice president of this executive-search and consulting firm for nonprofit groups. Most recently he was chief operating officer at the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.

Departures

Kyle Peterson will leave the Walton Family Foundation this summer after three years as executive director of the $3.8 billion grant maker.

Paul Rieckhoff, founder and CEO of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, is stepping down after 14 years.

David Torchiana will retire in April as president and CEO of Partners Healthcare. He has led the charity since 2015.
