Immigration Panel Rules Against Islamic Fund Raiser

April 12, 2006 | Read Time: 1 minute

A Board of Immigration Appeals in California overturned on Tuesday a lower court ruling and said a fund raiser for an Islamic charity allegedly linked to Hamas should be deported to Jordan, reports the Associated Press.

Abdel-Jabbar Hamdan, of Buena Park, Calif., was arrested on immigration charges in July 2004 when an indictment was issued against the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development.

The Texas charity was accused of funneling millions to Hamas, the Palestinian group that the U.S. government lists as a terrorist organization.

Mr. Hamdan had started a mosque in Anaheim, Calif., but was not criminally charged for ties to terrorism. His lawyers said they would appeal the decision.
