Indian College Fund CEO Steps Up Search for Donors

New job: Cheryl Crazy Bull, 57, began her new post as head of the American Indian College Fund last month. She succeeds Richard B. Williams, who is retiring.
Career path: Ms. Crazy Bull served as president for 10 years of the Northwest Indian College. Previously, she was superintendent of St. Francis Indian School and taught business administration at Sinte Gleska University, a tribal university on the Rosebud Indian Reservation, in Mission, S.D., before moving into administrative posts there.
Her goals: Assuring the nonprofit’s supporters that she intends to continue the efforts of Mr. Williams efforts to attract large grants for needy Native American students and tribal colleges. She Ms. Crazy Bull’s says her long-term goal is to broaden and diversify the fund’s pool of donors.
Next steps: The fund is about to enter a strategic-planning phase, and Ms. Crazy Bull will spend a lot of time seeking ideas from supporters, students, and officials from the tribal colleges on how the fund can grow. “Philanthropy in tribal communities is starting to expand,” she says, “and making sure we are all well positioned to participate in that is important.”
Salary: She declined to reveal it.
Education: She earned a bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of South Dakota and a master’s degree in education administration from South Dakota University.
