The Independent, in London, interviewed Barbara Stocking, director of Oxfam GB, about her career.
Ms. Stocking, who previously worked at the National Academy of Sciences, in the United States, and at the World Health Organization, said she “got sucked into” working for health organizations, but came to Oxfam to realize her lifelong interest in international development.
She told the newspaper that she admires Kofi Annan and hopes one day to work on a senior level at the United Nations.
Speaking about the “perks” of her current job, she said: “Tomorrow I go to Cairo and then to Yemen, where I’ll be going far into the country for our work on early marriage among young girls. I will sit down in the villages and have really good conversations because I’m known to be Oxfam. It’s such a privilege.”
