Iraqi Man Gets Jail Term Over Death of Charity Leader
June 5, 2006
A Baghdad court sentenced an Iraqi man, Mustafa Salman, to life imprisonment on Monday in connection with the 2004 kidnapping and murder of Margaret Hassan, the head of the Iraqi branch of CARE International, Reuters reports.
Mr. Salman had been charged with aiding and abetting the kidnappers after Iraqi security forces found a plastic bag containing Ms. Hassan’s purse and personal documents in Mr. Salman’s home.
Mr. Salman’s trial is thought to be one of the first trials for the kidnapping and murder of a foreign-born civilian in Iraq.
