IRS Plans Workshopsfor Tax-Exempt Groups

The IRS is offering free one-day workshops in six cities to small and midsize tax-exempt organizations.

The workshops will cover the procedures nonprofit organizations must follow to maintain their tax exemptions and comply with other tax laws. They are designed for board members, officers, and staff members of new small or midsize organizations that have received tax exemptions within the last five years and have an annual income of less than $1-million. While the workshops are open to anyone, they cover basic information and thus will probably be of limited use to tax professionals or large charities, the IRS says. The IRS plans to offer workshops every year in different cities and towns.

The workshops are being held through June in Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Denver, and San Diego. To register, go to and click on the desired workshop, or call IRS Exempt Organizations Customer Account Services toll-free at (877) 829-5500 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Eastern time.
