Islamic Charity Fund Raiser Released From Prison
July 28, 2006
A federal judge in Los Angeles on Thursday ordered the release of Abdel-Jabbar Hamdan, a fund raiser for the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development, a Muslim charity in Richardson, Tex., that the government shut down for alleged ties to terrorists, reports the Associated Press.
Federal authorities had held Mr. Hamdan for two years on immigration charges and said he had helped the charity raise money for the Palestinian militant group Hamas. A spokeswoman for Immigration and Customs Enforcement could not comment on the decision because federal lawyers had yet to see a copy of the order.
