James Beard Foundation Appoints New Head
April 17, 2006
The James Beard Foundation, a culinary charity in New York, on Sunday named a new president to replace Leonard F. Pickell Jr., who pleaded guilty to stealing more than $50,000 from the charity during his tenure, reports The New York Times.
Susan Ungaro, formerly the editor in chief of Family Circle magazine, will be paid a salary and given control of the charity’s day-to-day operations, unlike previous presidents.
A new board is being formed to govern the charity, since several of the group’s trustees resigned after Mr. Pickell admitted to stealing from the organization.
